Born of two family passions...
Buzz Power was born of two family passions: a love of beekeeping and running and cycling in the great outdoors. Our founder and Apiarist-in-Chief, Tony, has been keeping bees for many years and his son Ed, a seasoned marathon runner and long-distance cyclist, suggested that a honey-based carbohydrate would be an excellent substitute for maltodextrin-based energy gels.
Like many competitive runners and cyclists, Ed found conventional maltodextrin-based energy gels an “unpleasant necessity”, causing nausea and IBS-like symptoms when he was training or racing. Daughter Hannah came onboard to help launch the brand after losing her job during Covid and, after a year of research and development, Buzz Power was born in January 2021.
Nature's super fuel
We knew that honey was an incredibly rich source of natural, easily digested carbohydrate but studies confirmed what we suspected - that the blend of fructose and glucose in honey was a perfect match for the sugars in maltodextrin energy gels, but with the added benefits of the enzymes, vitamins, minerals and amino acids that make honey such a valuable and healthy food for humans. In 2010, Runners World called honey 'The Perfect Running Fuel' but we think Buzz Power is just about perfect for anyone looking for a natural alternative to energy gels!
Carefully blended electrolytes
We consult with the UK's finest sport nutritionists to develop a blend of electrolyte additives to replace essential minerals lost through perspiration (bees don’t sweat during their endurance training - humans do!). Texture and consistency were rigorously tested so we could be sure Buzz Power is as easy to consume on the run as it is delicious and effective.
We take a lot of pride in being 100% transparent about our ingredients. We use no artificial additives, stabilisers or flavourings. Unlike lesser 'honey gels' we don't use honey flavours - just pure, certified organic raw honey!
